Goethe45 Open Air Gallery / Bremerhaven, Germany

Organized and curated by Anne Schmeckies, I was invited to take part in a group exhibition in June 2016 at the Goethe45-Open-Air-Gallery in Bremerhaven, Germany. The outdoor gallery was created by 22 artists who created murals on connected outside walls. I had the privilege to create a combined artwork with CareOne and Daschu, two southern German artists who used their creativity to beautify the houses of residents in an under-privileged South African community in Grabouw, outside of Cape Town. Their work, titled ‘The Blue Area’, helped the people of the community take pride in their environment and receive hope through the power of art. Their piece at the Open-Air-Gallery in Bremerhaven is a continuation of this work and I had the opportunity to add my own style of painting, solidifying this cultural connection between South Africa and Germany. The video gives a little taste of the event in Bremerhaven, which included dance, live music, workshops and a photographic exhibition of Daschu and CareOne’s ‘Blue Area’ work in South Africa. Enjoy !
