“Safety first, Dude” is a custom skate deck that was created as a birthday gift / going-away present for Fabrizio Minutolo, the Italian-Spanish-African-Australian-German founder of “Chill Mode 2000″ and master of the “Maximum Chill” ! Illustrating Fab’s passion for the ocean, diving, photography, skating, surfing, animals, fauna and flora, the design was somewhat inspired by the oldskool typography-filled surf & skate designs of Jim Phillips, especially in the bold colour usage and image-heavy layout. This in turn highlights Fab’s colourful, permanently happy & super-chilled personality. As the ultimate hombre and one of the coolest humans alive to all who know him, we say maximum respect to the original Von Dudenstein ! Big thanks go out to Siraaj Petersen and Shannon Loxton for assisting to get this one out in under 4 days.

Escaflow Family is a Breakdance crew from Bremen, Germany with a strong visual identity reflected in their unique triangle-based typographic logo design. The original logo was modified to create a custom graphic for the back of Bgirl Val Area’s denim jacket. In close collaboration with the crew’s front man, Timo, we digitally illustrated his sketches to create the final art piece on the back of Val’s Jacket. Check out Val Area ( aka Bgirl Lerok ) battling it out to become the champion in the 2on2 finals of the 2014 Notorious IBE breaking championships here.

When tasked with the rebranding of a well known event technical company from rock and roll to corporate, a fine balance must be maintained to keep the spirit of the brand, while creating a slick and powerful identity. This was exactly the goal with the branding of Golden Circle, formerly known as Hellfire Sound and Lighting. The company is one of South Africa’s leaders when it comes to the highest quality sound, lighting and related AV requirements for festivals, corporate and music industry events. The flame from the original identity was kept, while the overall look and feel was polished to reflect the company’s unmatched level of production and service. The Volunteer Wildfire Services in Cape Town hosts an annual open day highlighting fire safety in Cape Town’s natural environments. Youth education is a key area of focus and the character “DAZ” was created to serve as the VWS mascot. The character is based on a dassie, a small South African mountain animal, and was used across different campaign elements to give safety awareness tips to children and adults alike. For the album artwork for African electro band Gazelle, I collaborated with the band’s lead vocalist Xander Ferreira. After we co-conceptualized the cd cover, Xander was responsible for the photography and design, while I illustrated the “mural” images inside the booklet, by digitally layering my illustrations of the band over photographs of Cape Town’s city walls. The band has had global success, and sponsors such as Adidas and Red Bull. www.yogazelle.com
